Tenure is a term that defines the total amount of time that someone is with a certain team or company. It can be used to understand who is more senior than others in terms of employment.
Calculating the average tenure of a business requires two variables: number of employees and total combined experience in either years or months. Then you can plug those values into this formula:
When you hit calculate you will be given your results which is a single number. It is the total average tenure which is displayed in years, by default. You can convert that result into total months if you would like to by simply changing the unit type.
The average tenure can tell you a lot about your team, how skilled and experienced you all are, and can be used as a marketing or sales talking point to help close customer deals. There is no single amount that is good or bad, it all depends on your industry, business model, geographic location, and other factors.
Our tenure tool is about as easy as it can be! You can find the average tenure of your business by following these steps:
Your company has a total of 40 people. This is a great milestone, but you now want to assess your average tenure. You know 30 of the employees have been employed with you for 10 years each with the remaining 10 employees working for you for the last 5 years.
We must first get the total combined tenure which we can do by simply adding the years of tenure of each person. This would look like: (30 x 10) + (10 x 5) for a total of 350 years of experience. Now we plug the total number of employees, 40, into the first field and 350 years into the second field and hit calculate. Your average employee tenure is 8.75 years per, or 105 months.
There is no correlation between tenure and protections from being fired. It may play a role in some way but once you hit a certain amount of time tenured you will not suddenly be immune.
If you have worked for the company for any amount of time, that is your tenure. Every job you have has its own tenure. So if you work at company A for 6 years then leave for company B where you stay for 4 years, you tenure is not 10 years. Your tenure at company A is 6 years and your tenure at company B is 4 years.
