Calculating the average tenure of a business requires two variables: number of employees and total combined experience in either years or months. Then you can plug those values into this formula:
When you hit calculate, you will be given your results which is a single number representing the total average tenure, displayed in years by default. You can convert that result into total months if you would like by simply changing the unit type.
The average tenure can tell you a lot about your team, how skilled and experienced they are, and can be used as a marketing or sales talking point to help close customer deals. There is no single amount that is good or bad; it all depends on your industry, business model, geographic location, and other factors.
Our tenure tool is very easy to use! You can find the average tenure of your business by following these steps:
Your company has a total of 40 people. This is a great milestone, but you now want to assess your average tenure. You know 30 of the employees have been employed with you for 10 years each, while the remaining 10 employees have worked for you for the last 5 years.
First, get the total combined tenure by adding the years of tenure of each person. This would look like: (30 x 10) + (10 x 5) for a total of 350 years of experience. Now plug the total number of employees (40) into the first field and 350 years into the second field, then hit calculate. Your average employee tenure is 8.75 years, or 105 months.
There is no correlation between tenure and protections from being fired. While tenure may play a role in job security, it does not guarantee immunity from termination.
Tenure is simply the amount of time an individual has worked at a particular company. For example, if you worked at Company A for 6 years and then moved to Company B for 4 years, your tenure at Company A is 6 years, and your tenure at Company B is 4 years.
